Neil Gits De-Cluttering

30 years I have lived in my house now ! Gosh, doesn’t time fly ? And in that time I have filled up every drawer, every cupboard, every shelf and every wardrobe with … STUFF !! All sorts of stuff. Stuff that will “come in handy one day”. Only it hasn’t – not in the last 30 years anyway ! So with temperatures getting a fair bit cooler and my life still in a rather dull void, I took a look around the place, noticed all the piles of paperwork, bags of bits and boxes of more … stuff … then decided action was needed ! NOW !!

I have always felt that when you move into a new home, the first thing to do is to sort out the bedroom, so that when you get too tired to carry on with the the endless unpacking, you can at least throw yourself into bed, go to sleep and continue the next day. Throwing myself onto my bed was, until this week, the ONLY way to access the inside of my duvet – stuff had sprouted up all around it ! But now all clothes are inside the wardrobe, cupboards that hadn’t been opened this century have been emptied and their contents chucked out or recycled and the space left filled with genuinely useful stuff which I had spent years stubbing my toes on !

That was just one room and there is MUCH more to do yet, but the sections of my house that won’t be touched are my record library and CD shelves – I couldn’t bear to dispose of any of my music ! You never know when one of those almost forgotten tracks from the 70s or 80s is going to fit just perfectly in “The Old Gits Soul Show” one Monday evening between 7 & 9pm.
