It’s a running joke with “A13 Annie” that I am “The Cat Whisperer” in her house as whenever I am there, he is as good as gold for me, yet gives her various levels of grief and irritation when I am not ! Jasper, for that is his name, does like to flump out across my legs when we’ve got our feet up watching telly together and makes several loud purring noises whilst in that position, so I have concluded that though I am not really a pet person, he likes me !
On this basis I had no hesitation in volunteering to pop in and feed him a few times when Ann was in hospital and as she has Sky & Netflix on her TV, I decided to hang around a bit longer and keep him company as I have very little else in my diary at the moment. I think we bonded rather nicely on those visits, as when I went back as normal on Annie’s recovery & release, he came bounding in through the cat flap (having been outside doing whatever it is that cats do in the evening) and leapt straight onto my lap. I had put clean jeans on (and a clean t-shirt too!) for the momentous occasion, but when I felt ‘cold’ paws on my left thigh, I realized it might have been raining out, then a short while later, when Jasper made one of his 16 visits per night to his food bowls, I also realized that whatever it was that this boy cat had been doing outside, he had been doing it in the mud as there were now four damp, brown circles on my previuously immaculate jeans. Still love him to bits though ….
Perhaps I should extend the “Soulful Roll Call” on my show to pets and give him a mention too this week ? It’s an old fashioned concept I know, but even after all these years and all the changes in technology, people STILL enjoy hearing their name read out on a radio show, so if you’ve been enjoying my selections from the wonderful world of soul, jazz-funk & disco over recent weeks, but never got round to getting in touch, why not send an email or text between 7 & 9pm one Monday, or head for our Facebook page “The Old Gits Soul Show” anytime and post something on there in advance and I will add you to the list which gets read out complete with a fair bit of tongue in cheek banter just before 8pm each week…
