Neil Gits Good Service

It is very hard to find positive things to scribble about on this blog in the current climate – apart from what cracking music you can hear on my show each week, of course ! – but this week there was a tiny ray of light shining in my dark world. With no income since mid-March and struggling to keep my head above water, you dread it when something goes wrong at home which will need a costly repair or even worse complete replacement. And so it was that my poor old washing machine, which in fairness had been on its last legs for well over a year now anyway, finally refused to do anything apart from making my clothes soaking wet !!!

Instead of doing the obvious thing and spending a little time online looking for the best deal comparing various major company websites, I decided that as whatever I spent was going on my credit card and being 100% more than I could actually afford, I would try and support a local business instead. I found a family run firm who specialized in domestic appliances about 10 miles from where I live and went to visit them on Wednesday morning and although I was required to stand on the door step rather than enter the small shop, the chap who I dealt with was really helpful and understood my situation. 20 minutes later I had a lovely new well-known brand washing machine being delivered and installed this Tuesday – and it was even going to cost me less than I had expected it would from glancing with my untrained eyes online !

As someone who has been self empoyed for nearly 33 years now and runs (or used to !) a small business myself, it felt good to help someone who has probably encountered endless difficulties themselves in the last four months. My new best friend also looked uncannily like David Tennant in his Broadchurch role !! But that is a totally random piece of information I just thought I’d share … lol

So, with the Persil on standby, this Monday evening I will excitedly be hosting the next “Old Gits Soul Show” from 7-9pm and hopefully my choices and your requests from the soul, jazz-funk & disco days of the 70s & 80s can spread the feelgood factor to your life for a couple of hours at least ….
