It’s that time of year when after 11 months of no mail of any real interest at all falling through my letterbox, I suddenly start getting a small river of “important documents” in the post. My car insurance renews in March and the local council send through their annual bumf re the council tax in this month too, plus we are aapproaching the end of the financial year so that also seems to spark of a little surge of paperwork heading in my direction, most of which is related to areas of life I haven’t given a second thought to since this time last year …
My accountant sent me a letter to sign and return, apparently to “finally finalize the final finalization” of my relationship with him (all very amicable, no issue there !) having formally retired nearly 18 months ago and not having had one penny of income since March 2020. Bureaucracy still moves VERY slowly even in the ‘digital age’ it seems… I also had to do a similar thing for the insurance company confirming that I am perfectly happy to continue with them on the motoring front – which I definitely am as my premium has actually gone DOWN twice in the last two years !!
Dealing with all this had me opening my wallet for the first time in a long while to see if there were still any stamps in there – which there were to my surprise, although I am not 100% sure if they are still valid as they still have the Queen’s head on them and I’ve heard that we have a King now !! I have very little to do with ‘current affairs’ and couldn’t even tell you the name of the prime minister – I stear well clear of all those shenanigans and keep myself safely immersed in the wonderful world of nostalgia, in particular the Golden Era of soul, jazz-funk & disco from the 70s & 80s which provides the bulk of the music you can hear on my “Old Gits Soul Show” every Monday. Catch up on the ‘Repeat Play’ at 5pm tonight (Saturday) or later on via ‘Listen Again’ and hear these fabulous tracks played ….
