Neil Gits His Trackies On

14th May 2021
Posted by Neil Matthew

It’s a worrying sign, but I’ve taken rather a liking to wearing what I used to call “tracksuit bottoms” over the last few months, putting them on when I get up each day and even wearing them to pick up my online food order from the Asda Car park – I’ll be going out in my pyjamas next !!

Last summer I was due to go on one of my rare clothes shopping missions to replace a few worn out items (fashion isn’t really a concern for this Old Git!) but of course that proved impossible, things being as they were, so I took a very deep breath and gambled on buying online. Amongst the items were two brand new pairs of jeans, without frayed bottoms & holes in the knees (not to mention other rather more awkward places !) and to my amazement despite not being able to try them on first, they both fitted perfectly !! As a precaution, not wishing to spend the rest of the year wearing shorts everywhere, I also purchased two pairs of ‘trackies’ and they fitted beautifully too – result !

Fast forward 9 months and several washes later, I just cannot do the zips and buttons up on my ‘new’ jeans anymore, they MUST have both shrunk in the wash ! They certainly haven’t had a lot of wear and tear, I’ve hardly had anywhere to go in them and on many an occasion I haven’t left the house, spending all day in my jim jams, all they’ve been used for is slouching around on the sofa endlessly, eating unhealthy microwave dinners, watching TV, guzzling lots of Pepsi and gorging on chocolate and ice cream …. oh, wait ! I see what’s happened now …

Thankfully, whatever poor shape I’ve got into, it doesn’t affect the sound of “The Old Gits Soul Show”, so you can rest assured that come what may there will be two hours of soul, jazz-funk & disco tunes from the good old days of the 70s & 80s and beyond for you to enjoy between 7 & 9 pm every Monday night, with the ‘Repeat Play’ on Saturday at 5pm and ‘Listen Again’ on the website for catching up with.
