Neil Gits Ice Cream Poisoning !

23rd June 2023
Posted by Neil Matthew

What could be better on one of the many warm evenings that we’ve had lately than relaxing after a hard day, chilling to the tunes on my show and enjoying something cold and tasty straight out of the freezer ? If you agree with that, you may well have been doing what I’ve been doing and reaching for one of your “special supply” of ice cream treats now and again. I love a Magnum and will treat myself to one or two across the summer when out and about, but it has to be said Asda do a pretty good “fake” version called “Moments” and I usually have a packet of the white or dark chocolate ones ready and waiting in the freezer on standby …

To my horror, on this occasion I only had one white one left, so having made a note on my shopping list to re-stock on Monday morning, I settled down to savour the last one for a few days. I was a bit surprised how easily the chocolate coating fell off and how extra icy my ice cream was, but thought nothing of it … until about midnight, around six hours after eating it. I was beginning to get stomach cramps, really rather uncomfortable, so after 20 somewhat painful minutes I decided to look online and after some smart research, realized it could be “dairy posioning” and a disrupted night flitting between the bedroom & the bathroom followed !

It all tied in with the previously innocent looking ice cream lolly – I dug out the recycled cardboard packet and there was the evidence … I should have eaten them all two months ago !!! The last one had been lurking undisturbed at the bottom of the freezer undisturbed since god knows when ! So what did I do last Monday ? Cross “Moments” off my shopping list ? No ! I bought a brand new pack of three and scoffed them all within three days to avoid the same thing happening again – delicious !

Let me assure you that the quality of music you will hear on my show on these lovely warm summer evenings is NOT affected by the age of your ice cream stored indoors to enhance some seriously “Cool Soul” enjoyment ! Each week I painstakingly ensure that the tracks chosen are of the same high standard that you’ve come to know and love over the last 13 years or so. Check them out on the ‘Repeat Play’ this saturday at 5pm or head for “Listen Again” and savour them all right now ….
