Neil Gits New Glasses

12th November 2022
Posted by Neil Matthew

One of many long overdue jobs that I have finally attended to this year was to make an appointment at the opticians and have my first eye test since 2017. I checked my paperwork in the office at “Old Gits HQ” and discovered that although I had my eyes checked and was given a prescription for a new pair, for some reason I never actually bought them and had been using the same reading glasses since 2013 ! I had noticed I was struggling a bit both at home and in the studio at Gateway, getting by with “guesswork” reading my football paper & show notes, whilst magnifying the size of websites online, but the optician surprisingly concluded that there had only been a minor deterioration of my sight in the last 9 years and that I did in fact have quite remarkably good vision for my age !! Must be taking all those football ground photos on my numerous road trips keeping my eyes well exercised …

I did buy new glasses this time though, a slightly stronger, but much cleaner, unscratched pair (I think that was the main problem!) and debuted them on the 31st October show – where I couldn’t see much at all on the studio screens, but found my sricbbled notes were much more legible ! With a bit of tinkering and re-adjusting of screen and seating positions at home, me and my new glasses have now bonded and last Monday’s show was a much smoother ride following the “Halloween Horror” of the week before.

Naturally, the quality of soul tunes reaching your ears as always holds the show together, whatever else is or isn’t working in my hands technically and a look at the latest playlist should, I hope, confirm that ! Check out this week’s ‘Repeat Play’ at 5pm today on Gateway or catch up later via “Listen Again” to hear this selection :
