Neil Gits No Goals

This is a rare experience – I am sitting at home on a Saturday afternoon ! As I write this week’s blog, I can feel myself getting increasingly grumpy because I really should be at a football match but I have none left to go to !! This time last week I took myself off to Norfolk for some total relaxation time and found a lovely quiet little seaside town, but found myself taking photos of an empty football pitch, wishing there was a game on it … sad, I know.

I shouldn’t moan though, I’ve made full use of the last nine months and hit most of the targets on my “groundspotting” list and with two cup finals next weekend to round the season off nicely, taking my total up to 40 matches. One thing I did want to achieve though, which was totally out of my hands, was to get through all 40 fixtures without seeeing a 0-0 draw but would you believe it, on the last day of the regular season, two teams with nothing to play for tippy-tapped their way to a complete stalemate as I watched on aghast.

The exact same thing happened to another “groundhopping” friend of mine and we shared condolences on social media this week ! And … to top it all, a play-off match I’d planned to go to two weeks ago ended up 6-1, whilst I was stuck on both the M25 and M1 in two separate major road closures …. nooooooooooo!!!!!! 🙁 Football can be a cruel game …

Aah … I’ve just seen that the Women’s FA Cup Final is live on BBC1 tomorrow afternoon – that will keep me going till next weekend, so I’d better crack on and plan this Monday’s show so it’s all prepared by kick off time !
