Neil Gits Overheated !

I am treading familiar ground here, but again …. this summer !!!  Yes, the soul tunes I play sound fab in the sunshine … Yes, the sunshine generally puts people in a good mood around us … and yes, there are people who will gladly pay hundreds of pounds to holiday in places that are even hotter … but personally, this heatwave is doing my head in !! It got me good and proper this week when the temperature touched 34 degrees and I actually felt physically unwell and had to opt out of day to day activities to try and recover & recharge my batteries – the refreshing thunderstorm arriving just in time ! The much talked about “long hot summer of 76” was a terrific time for huge soul hits – “Young Hearts Run Free” by Candi Staton, “You To Me Are Everything” by The Real Thing, “Midnight Train To Georgia” by Gladys Knight & The Pips and “This Is It” by Melba Moore were all selling bucket loads of copies in June & July that year and other big favourites of mine such as “Soul City Walk” by Archie Bell & The Drells and “Harvest For The World” by The Isley Brothers were also flying out over the record shop counters too, so I have very fond memories of that time but I was 42 years younger then and my body was more resilient to extremes in weather – I don’t think I will be reminiscing with much fondness about the “long hot summer of 2018”, however good the tunes are !! At least we have air con now …
