It’s been just over three years since I last hosted a quiz as “the man on the mic”, full retirement being sadly confirmed in December 2021 – not that I have any regrets as I am now “living my best life” as I think they say these days ! I have actually popped into one or two pubs quietly and alone since then to sit in the corner with pen and paer, just to keep my brain alive – and done spectacularly averagely – but this week I became part of a team for the first time in ages …
With Nathan & his girlfriend Amy home from University for a few weeks, they wanted to meet up in the Easter break and thought it would be nice to have a meal and do a pub quiz together and thus “Team John Trivia-olta” was born ! Looking around the packed pub there were lots of hardcore regulars present and I didn’t rate our chances, but the two young’uns came up with some crucially correct answers between them and along with some very lucky breaks and this Old Git’s worldy quiz ezperience, after 3 rounds we had scored 37 out of a possible 40 points, having got 10/10 on our chosen Joker Round – no, not music but TV & Films !!
In the end, Science & Nature did for us, but “John Triviaolta” still ended up a very credible 2nd on the final table and we all went home having enjoyed a good evening together. I stepped back into retirement (for now!) from all things quizzy and returned to using my voice exclusively for duties as host of “The Old Gits Soul Show” each week.
