So, after not venturing any further than the studio or the local supermarket (half a mile away !) since mid March, I took advantage of being able to drive any distance in England and back in a day to get some fresh air and exercise by way of ‘celebrating’ my birthday. The weather was fabulous on Wednesday, the roads, not surprisingly, were very light on traffic and a had a good selection of Soul CDs on board to totally relax with … bliss !
Next to nothing was open of course, and tempted as I was by the sight of a modest queue of cars waiting for their chicken fix at a recently re-opened KFC drive-thru in Chesterfield, it was a bit early in the day for me, and I continued with my packed lunch to a lovely quiet spot with beautiful scenery in The Peak District. Tackling some steep woodland steps and scrabbling up the rocky hillside was a bit of a shock to the system for someone whose only exercise recently has been lifting my arm off the sofa to point the remote control at the telly, but once I reached my destination, I took some deep breaths, pulled my camera out of my pocket and snapped away at some wonderful views. If the walk hadn’t done it already, they would have taken my breath away !!
Back to the car, lunch devoured, it was time to head back south, working my way through the rest of my specially chosen tunes and start to think about what music to select for this week’s show. You can find out which ones I picked, and which requests came in from my lovely listeners by tuning in to Gateway from 7-9pm this Monday – meanwhile here is last week’s playlist which can be enjoyed right now via “Listen Again” :
