Neil Gits Sloppy

6th February 2021
Posted by Neil Matthew

Back at “DJ School” , deep in the mists of time, I was taught many golden rules for broadcasting on the radio, many of which don’t really apply so much in this day and age, but there are still several that I stick with all these years later. One of those is “always announce the song title and artist either before or after playing it” (maybe both) on the basis that there will always be someone listening who is hearing that track for the very first time and wants to know what it is.

Of course, with all the technology available now, like “Shazam” and instant feedback via social media, maybe that is not quite so important, but I like to think that the very nature of my show attracts a certain listener who likes hearing things done the “old fashioned way” sometimes and thus I was mortified when I checked out a recent show (yes, I use “Listen Again” too!) and realized I had played an obscure Incognito instrumental tune to finish with and NOT told you what it was !

Should you still be cursing my total lack of professionalism last month and wondering what it was, the cut was called “Fly” taken from their 2002 album “Who Needs Love” – there ! Amends made … Of course my full playlists are all available on “The Old Gits Soul Show” Facebook page as well as posted each week at the end these blogs, so if you do ever miss the name of a partiuclarly enjoyable slice of “Cool Soul” , just have a look through.

You can hear this week’s show repeated on air at Gateway97.8FM today (Saturday) between 5 & 7pm and stick around afterwards to check out all the best new soul music on the “UK Soul Chart” straight afterwards.
