It’s been quite a long time since I made any attempt to keep up with modern technology – in my house the well known phrase goes “if it ain’t broke, don’t update it !” So, only if any of my stuff comes to the end of its useful electronic life do I take a deep breath and prepare to deal with all the headaches a new so called “improved” version brings even if it does now come with “Extra 50% whibble-bots per nano second” blah , blah , blah … Just give me one that worked perfectly well like the old one did !!

However, and I think I’ve mentioned this before, when my son moved out last September, he left behind a little round thing plugged into the wall near the bathroom door that plays music if you “ask it” and I have become quite attached to it. By actually reading one of the many emails I get sent from the admin team, I discovered that I am living with a ” smart speaker ” and (if your tone of voice is exactly ‘right’ of course …) you can “ask her” to “Play Gateway ninety seven point eight” which if you do so between 7 & 9pm on a Monday will give you another way to listen to my show.

I think I have perfected it now, but I have to admit trying to get the thing to bring me other radio stations or types of music have been less successful. Only the other day I got into an extremely heated argument with “Alexa” who would NOT do what I told her to and simply couldn’t provide any sensible answers why not, resulting in my bellowing a tirade of vile abuse in her direction. The feeble woman just took it all on the chin and gave me nothing back in return – absolutlely spineless and no fun at all !!

To hear the ‘Repeat Play’ this Saturday between 5 & 7pm, why not give it a go and see how you get on with Alexa, Siri, Googli, Brenda or whatever your one is called. At least if it causes you stress the marvellous tunes will soon sooth you again …
