Neil Gits Strawberries

1st July 2023
Posted by Neil Matthew

My travels this week took me to SW19 and my first stop was the “All England Lawn Tennis Club” – home of the famous Wimbledon Championships. It was interesting to look around the venue on my first ever visit, as someone who played quite regularly in my late teens with mates on the public courts in Lake Meadows Park, Billericay. Everyone there was getting ready for this year’s tournament starting on Monday, but Tuesday is the day I’ll be watching on TV when our own Ryan Peniston from Great Wakering takes on twice former champion Andy Murray in the first round !

To be honest, my main reason for choosing Wimbledon for my first stop was to finally visit the local football team’s “new” stadium opened in 2020, but in actual fact I took more photos of the tennis venue than I did at the footy ground – and one of those was of a Womble ! Whilst having a Travelcard in my pocket, I also stopped off at Richmond nearby and saw locations where “Ted Lasso” was filmed before heading back to Liverpool Street via another stop off at Blackfriars to walk across the Millenium Bridge for the first time and visit The Globe Theatre, faithfully re-created in the style of Shakespeare’s time, then catch some different views of St Paul’s Cathedral – I’d never realized just how big it was !!

But it was the home of tennis that really captured my imagination and the next day I just had to pop into Asda and buy some strawberries for tea, though – schoolboy error! – I forgot to get cream too ! You don’t get many in a punnet for £1.49 these days, so I am going to have to go back for a bigger size pack ready for Tuesday, this time WITH cream … lol

I don’t know what you have lined up for tea today (Saturday) but whatever it is, the tunes played on the 5pm “Repeat Play” of my weekly show will make it taste even better … honestly ! Check out this playlist :
