Neil Gits Stuck Behind A TR

5th October 2024
Posted by Neil Matthew

I’ve not done anywhere near as many miles on the road as I did in the first two years of retirement, feverishly dashing round the country ticking off unvisted football grounds and other places of interest I’d never had time to explore. It’s ironic really as the price of petrol is currently the lowest i can recall it being for a good few years, but even so my savings will only stretch so far and the belt had to be tightened …

You see so much of life while out in the car, especially whilst on the motorways where you can encounter every kind of driver travelling within a vast range of speeds, in all manner of vehicles from tiny Fiat 500s to huge juggernauts, all on a mission to get from A to B as safely or quickly as possible. The A13 is a much used road by me and being close to the Dartford Crossing, you get to notice which countries the lorries powering their way up and down there have come from. Obviously, the closer nations such as France, Germany, Spain & Netherlands with their familiar F, D, E & NL International Vehicle Registration Codes on display, are the most frequent visitors I see, but there are many others …

I like to keep an eye out for those coming from slightly further afield countries such as Lithuania (LT) or Slovakia (SK) but last week on my way home through Wickford I found myself crawling slowly along the A132 behind a huge beast with the code ” TR ” which is not one I could remember seeing before and was a long way from home ! It’s a popular country to fly out to for a holiday but a heck of a journey by road for a lorry driver and thankfully he was taking the unfamiliar (to him!) bends & roundabout very carefully …

I also take a lot of care when planning my show each week and I hope you appreciate the effort that goes into bringing you an exceptional mix of soul, jazz-funk & disco tunes plus some truly fascinating facts as well. Oh … and the TR lorry ? It was not from Trinindad – and certainly not Turkmenistan ! Turkey of course … now back to the music :
