The last 12 months have been very, VERY different to usual of course, but the previous 12 months were very, VERY normal so despite almost everything else in my life being turned upside down, I still had to prepare and submit my tax return this week before the end of January deadline. I had been looking forward to the 20 minute drive to my accountants as it presented a rare opportunity this year to start the car and leave my house, but it was a cold, grey, wet depressing day and in truth I couldn’t wait to get back home and superglue myself to the sofa and TV remote again. I plonked all my paperwork in reception on arrival and left after exchanging the briefest of pleasantries with the lady behind the desk then wondered if I had managed to keep hold of enough money to pay the HMRC – one thing I’ve learnt from being self-employed for 33 years is you don’t mess with the Tax Man !! Mind you having earnt absolutely zilch in 2020-21, next year’s calculations should be interesting …
Back home it was time to lift my spirits and busy myself with preparations for my next epic “Old Gits Soul Show” – hopefully you enjoy listening to it each week as much as I do putting it all together and presenting it on Monday evenings !
