Up until July 2017, my back garden looked very different to how it does now. Although not a large area by any means, the small lawn was made to appear even smaller by a number of big bushes encroaching over the grass and a large eucalyptus tree which had begun to lean perilously ever closer to my house since I moved in 26 years previously. With some money left to me by my mother who died about a year before, I invited the chaps who Nathan and I used to call “The Nice Gypsies” to come and work their tree surgery magic and they did a great job removing all the green clutter, apart from three smaller evergreen trees at the bottom which never seem to grow much, clearing a nice big space for my fence-to-fence fake lawn to go in.
Fast forward five years and a bit of a mess had developed in one corner and even the “never growing” trees seemed to be moving slowly towards my kitchen window ! Time to contact the Tree Fellas (actually there’s only two of them, but that doesn’t make a joke … ) who have still been regularly dropping by my house when in the area, even though there has been nothing for them to do for a while, and sometimes just stop for a chat with barely a mention of branches or bushes ! Now my garden looks almost as good as new again and it was a nice feeling to be able to give some decent down to earth people a few quid and a bit of work when we’ve all been struggling to survive lately.
I almost see it as my purpose in life to create a “feelgood factor” which I normally try to do by playing jolly nice music on the radio for you to enjoy every Monday between 7 & 9pm, so if you like soul, jazz-funk & disco tunes from the 70s & 80s and you could do with a mucial pick-me-up on a moody Monday, you know where to find me !
