Wasn’t it great to see the UK not only scoring some (ANY !) points but also coming so close to winning at Eurovision last weekend ? I know we have a quite a few closet fans of the annual contest on the Gateway team and though I am very much first & foremost a “Soul Man”, the competition is a guilty pleasure. A13 Annie went to bed before the last couple of songs (she was VERY tired …) and missed all the votes coming in, usually a long drawn out tedious affair, with much predictable back-scratching in the awarding of points, and at the time I didn’t blame her – but it was a totally different ball game this year ! I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing and I am sure there were many, many screen shots flying around at about 11.30 on Saturday night with Sam Ryder in FIRST PLACE after the jurors’ scores.
Even on the best of Eurovision nights, though, you need to plan ahead and the small table in front of us was laden with Doritos, a selection of dips, chocolates and other tasty goodies – with a big chocolate trifle on standby in the fridge in case we were still on “nil points” after the first 20 countries had voted ! A good night all round really though (which had an unfortunate post script for me personally – see next week’s blog!) – I just hope you had a good few quid at the bookies on Ukraine ultimately triumphing, the safest bet in history !!
Meanwhile, back in the world of real music, last Monday’s show was a proper Bobby Dazzler, if I say so myself, with plenty of good feedback to check in between playing some cracking soul, jazz-funk & disco goodies. Bend an ear to the show yourself if you weren’t there live last Monday – you can find it via “Listen Again” elsewhere on this site …
