Neil Gits Three Seconds Less !

Have you tried listening to Gateway on DAB yet ? If you live in Essex and prefer to listen to ‘proper’ radio at home or out in the car, rather than streaming online using whatever modern technology you can get your head around, you might have a nice surprise ! We are still fully available in and around Basildon (and quite a way outside the town too) on good old 97.8 FM but since early this year you can now hear the station on DAB with signals emitting from Southend-on-Sea and the East London/West Essex areas covering a large part of the county for the first time …

Obviously, if you are one of my various regular ‘long-distance listeners’ residing in far flung places such as Canada, Poland, France, Wales, Somerset, Nottingham or Suffolk it’s still the internet for you (or maybe try the Radioplayer on TV in the UK?) but if you really love your soul, jazz-funk & disco tunes from the 70s 80s & beyond, I am sure you will find a way – I know I’d rather listen to great music via a crackly FM signal or a dodgy erratic Wi-fi than put up with average tunes in crystal clear digital sound !

To help spread the word, the team behind the scenes at Gateway have made some tweaks to the output of the station, including adjusting the “news intro” which you hear right at the end of my show. For a long time it was always 11 seconds before the top of the hour, then in 2024 it changed to 12 to fit in the letters ‘DAB’ but now it runs at 8:59:45 pm before the news – which means I’ve lost a whopping three seconds of my show !!! Don’t worry though, you still have (almost) two hours of the good stuff to enjoy every Monday night LIVE from Studio 1 – the latest playlist is here :
