I always say that there is little point in being self-employed if you can’t just drop everything on the spur of the moment once in a while and head for a nice day out if the weather suits – no boss to grovel to, no holiday forms to fill in, no having to plan 9 months ahead and just hope the sun is shining on your chosen dates, just GO !!! 🙂 So that’s what I did last Friday, although it wasn’t because the weather was so good, it was because it was so HOT and working conditions at “Old Git Towers” were proving highly unproductive, so to hell with it, get in the car, turn up the aircon to max and enjoy a two hour trip to Hastings locked inside the frame of the Neil-mobile at a sensible relaxing temperature. But … on arrival, you get out of the car and … OUCH !!! The heat !!! Of course, it isn’t quite as bad by the coast as inland, there is a breeze here and there, but it was till SO HOT ! And then I remembered – the caves ! Just off the seafront, up the West Hill Cliff Train and down the slope a bit are St Clements caves and for some reason hardly anybody wants to visit them at 2pm on a sweltering hot Friday afternoon in July, so we had the whole place almost to ourselves and could wander around at a very leisurely pace enjoying the much reduced temperature inside – no windows, no sushine, no stress !! “Allow 45-50 minutes for your visit” it says – we strung it out to nearly two hours, only leaving when our tums told us fish n chips might be a good idea for tea … and you can’t get them in a cave !
So here I am, much more relaxed and ready to bring you this week’s LIVE two hour session of the coolest / hottest (YOU choose your preference!) soul, jazz-funk & disco from the 70s 80s and beyond from 7-9pm this evening – I almost expect to have listeners getting in touch on the “Old Gits Soul Show” Facebook page telling me they are tuned in on the patio furniture or even lazing on the lawn, chilling with the tunes !
