Neil Gits To The Beach…Twice !

24th March 2024
Posted by Neil Matthew

It’s a blog ‘Double Header’ this week ! First of all I ticked another film on my long-standing “must see” list, finally watching Leonardoi DiCaprio starring in “The Beach” from 2000 – yes, it’s only taken me 24 years to get round to it ! Having enjoyed seeing a couple of riends of mine posting vlogs on You Tube of their back-packing travels in amongst the amazing islands and scenery of coastal Thailand, I felt it was time I gave it a viewing and was pleasantly surprised. It was much better and action packed than I had expected, my impressions had been that it was a dull boy-meets-girl-on-a-beach romcom … although it is a blockbuster at the end of the day & there are inevitably elements of that along the way !

Then this week, I was out on a ‘wander’ in the car with my camera to hand, as conditions were finally ideal for a long-ish walk on the Dengie Peninsula near where I live to photograph the locally well-known ‘Petrified Forest’ at Mundon. It was not easy to get too, the footpath was VERY muddy and I nearly came a complete cropper once when given a choice of grabbing prickly branches on a bush or the electrified fence to stay upright when slipping in the deep mud ! I also visited Osea Beach on the same trip in the Blackwater Estuary where there are some very unusual beach huts on stilts I fancied taking a few photos of. Luckily the tide was far enough out to see them at their best in the sunshine but the sand was more than a little damp & squidgy, so once back in my car at the end of the day, the footwell got into a bit of mess despite my best efforts to remove as much muck as possible of my beloved boots …

I really should be giving them a really good clean today, but the first priority is to prepare this Monday’s next live show for you to enjoy ! Why not head for our “Listen Again” page now and get your weekly fix of soul, jazz-funk and disco – the playlist sounds very much like this :
