Neil Gits Too Much Energy

4th May 2025
Posted by Neil Matthew

I am not a very ‘medical’ person at all – the last time I went to the local doctor’s surgery was in the late 90s when I was getting some serious hayfever problems and I haven’t been treated in a hospital since 1990 when I suffered with a painful stone and got rushed to Broomfield in an ambulance one unforgettable morning ! I also try to avoid visiting people there too as I am a bit of a curse – I think four of the last five friends or relatives I went to see died soon afterwards !!

I take very little in the way of pills & drugs (and none of the illegal kind!) just a daily vitamin tablet because I don’t eat terribly healthily (as you may have read on here once or twice…) and the odd cough sweet if my throat feels a bit raw before I share my dulcet tones with you on a Monday. And that’s about it really, apart from a tin in a cupboard with some plasters in, should I do something stupid in the kitchen or bathroom and nick myself, that about sums up the first aid available at Old Gits HQ …

Mind you, I do like to start each day with one of those Dextro energy sweets, usually an orange or blackcurrant one, they give you a nice little ‘kick’ when you are trying desperately to wake up, not being much of a morning person. The other day though something went a bit wrong, I probably should have stayed in bed a bit longer, because when I popped the day’s sweet in my mouth I soon started choking !! It didn’t take long to compose myself and recover, but for one moment I thought I might be seeing the inside of an ambulance for the first time in 35 years !

Don’t expect any drama in the studio on this week’s show – even if I think I am going to sneeze I turn the microphone down so it won’t spoil your enjoyment of the carefully chosen selection of soul, jazz-funk & disco tracks you can hear from 7pm on Monday. These are last week’s songs :
