Neil Gits Toothpaste On His Sock !

6th July 2024
Posted by Neil Matthew

I am always trying to think of unique new titles for my weekly blogs and I am pretty sure I’ve never used this one before !! How did it come about ? Well, let me explain … It goes back to last Friday when I had to collect my son and his mum from Heathrow Airport on their return from a four week trip to Thailand via Egypt (she’s a very keen traveller and knows how to get the best price for air tickets, even if it does mean taking a somewhat unconventional route !) Timing was of the essence and a meticulous plan had been devised ….

Obviously, I was not going to drive into Heathrow itself and get ripped off for a few minutes parking, so we’d agreed to meet at hatton Cross Underground station, at a specified time once they’d landed, and I’d planned my route to the last minute detail researching all afternoon for the best time to leave to avoid M25 madness, dodge current roadworks and where to park beforehand briefly to be able to pick up quickly and drive off – there were still ANPR cameras not to upset at the station !

These days I rarely have to rush anywhere, but I was cutting it a bit fine at home to depart at my ideal time and one of the last things I needed to do before stepping out of the front door was to clean my teeth. Yes, in my haste to set off on time, the strip of white toothpaste fell off my brush en route to my mouth and splattered over one of my clean socks, not a diaster as such, but there was no time to find a clean pair so I quickly wiped it with a tissue and headed out on the road. I did indeed arrive dead on time and was rather impressed with myself, but there was a twist …

On Google Earth I’d identified a footbridge by the bus stop at Hatton Cross as an ideal meeting point but as soon as I pulled into the car park, irealized it wasn’t there any more ! Someone had dismantled it since 2022 apparently !!! Cue carnage as son went one way, mum another, trolleys and backpacks all over the place, but somehow we still got in and out without getting a penalty notice – so far anyway ! Life doesn’t get much more exciting does it ? Oh yes it does ! You have the thrills and spills of “The Old Gits Soul Show” on the radio twice a week and if you listen today (Saturday) at 5pm you can hear the ‘Repeat Play’ containing these exhilerating tracks ….
