As life moves on and adjustments have to be made I have found myself having to deal with numerous “appointments” this last couple of weeks. In previous times that would have meant making myself look presentable, allowing plenty of time to travel, finding a parking space and then sit in a soulless modern office face to face with a “suit” feeling sorry for myself at the state I had got my finances into ! At best, I might have had a visit at home instead, but obviously that is not an option now … simply because my house has become too cluttered with records and CDs that there is no room for anyone to sit down !!!
So everything has been done by phone, there is clearly a standard procedure for this method now, because as well as repeatedly having to confirm my “date of birth and the first line of my address” each caller has given me an estimate of how long the call would last. The very first one said “just over an hour” – we finished two hours and seven minutes later ! One said 20 minutes, that took 45 … another said half an hour, 60 minutes later we were still talking … and scarily someone even said up to an hour and a half – but I kept that down to just under two hours !
I think it might be me. I have been a DJ / Quiz Host / Radio Presenter as long as I can remember, talking is what I do best ! In the studio I always try to keep at the front of my mind that it’s “all about the music” but I do slip up sometimes and this week I clearly had my “Bob Hoskins Hat” on (remember the BT ads he did ?) – I still got a cracking buch of songs played on the show though ! You can hear them all on the ‘Repeat Play’ at 5pm this Saturday straight after Gateway’s funeral coverage or head for the “Listen Again” section here some time soon at your convenience and I will be back live on air on Monday at 7pm.
