Neil Gits Woken Nicely

Am I sure many people can relate to this when I say that sleeping properly has been a real issue over the last year. With no work to go to or no sporting activities to take part in, our usual routines have taken a battering and random late nights and very long lie ins have become regular occurrences – at least they have in my house !! Getting a solid seven hours kip in, woken only by the radio alarm at the time I chose has become such a rare event that I usually enter it in my diary …

One such event got a “10/10” – I went to bed at my old “normal” time, didn’t wake up at some goodawful hour in pitch darkness terrified after a bad dream, suffering from acute cramp, doubled up in discomfort from indigestion or even just needing in a wee. I didn’t open my eyes 45 minutes too early unable to get back off to sleep due to the sunlight and I wasn’t disturbed my any of my noisy neighbours with their barking dogs, roaring motorbikes, screaming toddlers or obsessive DIY activities. Exactly seven hours after setting the ideal time I was gently brought back into the world by what I always say, when people ask, is my favourite song : “Thinking Of You” by Sister Sledge … bliss !

Over recent years I have found one radio station that ‘usually’ (but not always!) plays ‘nice’ music and though if I time it just wrong I can wake up to the sound of their DJ wittering on about something really irritating, or even worse the news or a commercial, I have worked out at what times in the hour I can be 95% sure of being woken by a nice gentle inoffensive song – so to arrive in the morning hearing my top soul track was a big bonus !!

Of course if you want to be guaranteed the very best in 70s & 80s soul, jazz-funk and disco (plus the RAH Band !!!) not just for 5 minutes but a whole TWO HOURS make sure you tune in to my show LIVE every Monday at 7pm or on Saturday at 5pm for the ‘Repeat Play’ – and of course there is always the “Listen Again” section for catching up too …
