April news part 1

Explore Essex were able to provide digital support to art trails and open studios last summer, but this summer their capacity is being entirely focused on recovery and encouraging residents to connect with Essex open spaces, so they won’t be able to offer the same support for summer 2021. They are really interested to hear of any plans for art trails and open studios in 2021 especially plans for later in the year, as there may be more scope to offer support in terms of marketing and promotion this autumn.

Thurrock Art Trail This year because of the continuing Covid 19 situation, Thurrock Art trail won’t be at the Horndon on the Hill Feast & Fayre, which would normally take place over the weekend of 26th – 27th June. Instead of artists displaying their work in Art Lane, Thurrock Art Trail 21 will be online as a virtual trail. It’s a great opportunity for all artists living or working in Thurrock to show their work. In fact, we’re able to include a larger number of artists because we won’t be limited by physical space. If you’d like to be part of Thurrock Art Trail 21 this is what to do:

  • Take a high resolution (200dpi) photograph of one piece of your work.
  • Write a short piece about yourself and your work: include information about influences and inspiration. Give a price for the piece you are submitting.
  • Give details of your website/Instagram/Facebook page/ contact details so people can get in touch with you directly. (We will not sell your work for you.)
  • There is no charge to artists exhibiting in the Thurrock Art Trail 21 Virtual exhibition.
  • Send the files to: [email protected] before the beginning of June 2021

Your work will be on the website for the rest of the year but let us know if the work you’re showing has been sold. You can send a photo of another piece of work but don’t forget to send a new price and description with it. (Please note that the Trustees of the Thurrock Art Trail will moderate and curate what is included in the exhibition.)

Calling all creatives of South Essex
The Association of South Essex Local Authorities (ASELA) commissioned a working research group with METAL, Bas-Arts-Index, The Other MA – TOMA,
The Old Waterworks, Tilbury on the Thames Trust and #CreativeEstuary
to find out how best to support creatives in our local area and deliver a new
Cultural Infrastructure Plan for the creative industries across South Essex.

If you’re an artist or work in the creative industries locally then have your say about the future of our sector. What do you need? Where is the untapped potential? How can we make it happen? How can we work together? Your input is vital. Join the conversation and take the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/creativeSE
