As a father of two Greg Rutherford knows the joy that can come from spending time in the kitchen with your kids helping them to create anything from pizzas and pasta dishes to brownies and banana bread.

Since the start of the first lockdown a whopping 94% of parents or guardians have been spending more time than ever cooking and baking with their little ones and, on average, we will be spending just under 3 hours a week cooking and baking during the national second lockdown with our children.

Since the beginning of the year 69% of children think they’re a better cook and 51% do not want that extra time to end, according to research from the Co-op.

Children’s top 5 foods they are looking forward to cooking during this lockdown:

  • Fairy cakes (37%)
  • Pizza (34%)
  • Cookies (33%)
  • Brownies (32%)
  • Pancakes (25%)

Aston spoke to Greg Rutherford MBE, Olympic gold medalist and 2019 Celebrity Masterchef champion to discuss what he has been creating in the kitchen with his children and how it is encouraging to see youngsters take more of an interest in cooking and baking.
