Team GB Paralympic legends to lead home games

Dame Sarah Storey, sporting legend with 14 gold medals in cycling makes her the most successful female British Paralympian of all time.

Like Storey, Lauren Rowles MBE won gold in Rio 2016 with both athletes showing that having a disability is no barrier to achieving your dreams.

Now both have teamed up to captain and inspire two teams of people living with health conditions as the first ‘Home Games’ is announced, designed to help motivate many to remain active while being at home.

The decorated athletes will take their teams through 10 weeks of virtual training, where team members will take part in fun and active games that can be done safely at home and will be created only using items found around the home and garden. The Home Games aims to be inclusive for a range of people living with a long-term health condition, whatever their ability or home set up whilst using things such as; water bottles, a bag for life, to laundry.

It comes as new research commissioned by We Are Undefeatable, shows that 45% of people with a health condition believe that even after being vaccinated, they will be cautious about coming into close contact with others and a quarter (25%) of adults living with health conditions feel their life will never be ‘normal’ again, following the coronavirus pandemic with many claiming their confidence has been ‘knocked’.

Aston spoke to Neil Tester, director of the Richmond Group of Charities to discuss more about The Home Games and why it’s so important for people living with a health condition to remain active in these uncertain times.
