Brits doing their own dentistry

As dentists have now been given the green light to go ahead and reopen practises all over the country, many are working to make sure they are ready to go and meet new safety guidelines to ensure Brits will be happy to return.

However, a new survey from Invisalign of Brits under 40s has found that while dentist’s have been closed, many people have taken matters into their own hands and carried out their own treatments. In partnership with Oral Health Foundation for National Smile Month, they also found that three quarters (73%) of Brits admit they have been tempted to carry out procedures on themselves. Four in ten (38%) have actually gone ahead with a treatment with one in ten (10%) buying their own teeth straightening kit. Londoners have shown a particular eagerness to treat themselves with over half (51%) doing their own procedures.

With most of us now regularly video calling friends, family and colleagues, over four in ten Brits (41%) have reported feeling differently towards their smile since lockdown began and almost six in ten (59%) say this is because of those increased virtual meets. One in five even say it’s the thing they notice most during those calls.

Aston spoke to Dr Simon Chard, founder of Chard Advanced Dentistry Academyand one of the most influential UK dentists in the industry to discuss the rising trend in DIY dental treatments and how the future of dentistry will look over the upcoming weeks and months.
