Owners have been leaning on their pets to handle lockdown restrictions and talking to them about everything from the weather to football, Trump and TV.

The poll of pet owners by Purina reveals a third (33%) have spent more time talking to their pets since the pandemic began with two-fifths (43%) saying their pets have helped them cope.

Two in every five find talking to their pet relaxing while 30% believe their pet has been ‘hugely important to their mental wellbeing’; a quarter (23%) say talking to their pet has even helped combat loneliness.

Aston spoke to psychologist Jo Hemmings to discuss the research and findings in further detail.
