Just how busy pubs will be on Saturday?

Pubs in England can reopen this weekend and 39% of people say they are happy about returning to their local this weekend, according to Insight specialists Opinion Matters which has been tracking the public’s confidence levels each weekend for the last month.

Four weeks ago 51% of us were relishing heading back for a drink but while that overall number has fallen, the most recent figures show 37% of 24-34 year olds intend going.

London and Birmingham have the greatest appetite with 36% keen to head to their local on Saturday with Newcastle (34%) and Manchester (32%) not far behind.

More men (54%) than women (36%) would be happy to pop out for drink and with 25-34 year olds (42%) more confident than 55-64 year olds (18%). Indeed 27% of men and just 8% of women say they will be heading to the pub on Saturday.

So as pubs contemplate the commercial impact of more than 100 days in lockdown, the trends highlighted by this month-long Opinion Matters confidence tracker suggest that while the pubs will be busy this weekend, many of us may decide to bide our time.

Aston highligthed the research in further detail.
