Christmas is going to be a little different this year. We might not have to bring the plastic garden furniture inside so the whole family can fit around the table. We might not even have to visit the in-laws (silver-lining), but we all still want a little normality, and the Christmas dinner is one if those things that no pandemic can stop.

Just the smell of the turkey, crispy roast potatoes, parsnips and pigs-in-blankets coming from the kitchen is enough to get anyone in the Christmas spirit.

With the uncertainty around Christmas celebrations, 4.3m of us are planning on cooking a Christmas dinner for the very first time – even though 16% believe it is too stressful and 11% admit that rustling up a roast fills them with dread, according to research from Aldi.

Aston spoke to chef Neil Rankin to give advice on how to take your Christmas dinner from average to amazing.
