Research from Green Flag revealed that one in three of us across the UK (36%) will be travelling to spend the festive period with family and friends, during the five-day window over Christmas when the government is easing travel restrictions.

Concern about the virus has prompted a 22-per cent increase in the number of people who plan to travel by car this year, with fewer taking public transport. On average they expect to travel 64 miles.

One in five people (17%) expect to spend Christmas with a grandparent.

Aston spoke to Blanche Oseland, rescue operations at Green Flag to disucss the research in further detail and also offered tips on how to travel safely this winter.
