Listen: is your home winter ready?

23rd October 2020

For many of us, there are benefits to the UK continually working from home – it’s more flexible, there’s no commute, we have more time to do household chores – the list goes on. But have we actually thought about how many more hours we’re spending in our homes this winter compared to last and have we made sure our homes are winter ready?

The “Big Switch On” campaign encourages us to test our boiler, radiators and electrics this week, identifying third week of October as the week experts predict will see the majority of the UK turning their heating on. In fact, 80% of plumbing and electrical customers surveyed believe we will be relying on our radiators, heating and lighting that little bit more next week according to Toolstation’s research.

With the majority of us spending more time in our homes instead of the office because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is even more essential than ever that we make time to test our heating, boilers and indoor/ outdoor lighting before temperatures drop.

Aston spoke to Billy “The Electrician” Byrne from DIY SOS and Matt Nourse, commercial director at Tool Station to tell us why it is so important that boilers are serviced and radiators are checked for leaks before winter arrives and also further details about the “Big Switch On” campaign.
