Listen: The UK cleaning boom

23rd September 2020
Posted by Aston Avery

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than half (52%) of people here in the UK are more concerned about the cleanliness of their homes with 57% of us cleaning more than we did before, according to new research from British cleaning product manufacturer, Hydrachem.

Hydrachem manufactures Cert, a household cleaner which destroys the SARS-CoV-2 virus – which causes COVID-19 – in just 60 seconds

The average adult now spends an additional 63 minutes cleaning each week â€“ going over door handles (51%) and light switches (37%) more often, while also spending more time cleaning the kitchen (49%) and bathroom (42%) to protect their home from the virus.

39% of us are being more diligent when guests are around, wiping-down any areas or surfaces they come into contact with once they have left. 17% of people admit to going further in their efforts to keep their homes and belongings clean and safe by using bleach to deep-clean, while a further 17% admit to washing any fabrics they have touched.

Aston spoke to Robin Rough, managing director at Hydrachem and Shaun Heaphy, virologist to discuss this boom in cleaning and share his expert advice on the products and formulas that are most effective for ensuring your home is clean and safe of COVID-19, in the midst of the rescheduled Great British September Clean 2020.
