Listen: Will we be asked to work from home?

The average office worker feels more productive if they spend just half an hour (29 minutes) of their working day outside – and they’re 45% more productive than they would be if they were working indoors.

Two thirds of workers (63%) say their general mood improves after being in the great outdoors. As working practices continue to change, with a balance between working from home or the office, research by Lenovo reveals the important role green space and nature plays on our mental and physical health, as well as productivity.

They’ve worked with Psychologist Honey Langaster James to develop a perfect Recommended Daily Nature allowance – which is 20 minutes of being active, 40 minutes of mindful time or 60 minutes of working in a nature rich environment each day and this could make a dramatic difference to your mental health and also boost your productivity, if there’s a need to think creatively.

More than half of people working remotely from home (63%) say they saw a general improvement in their mood after spending time outdoors and four in 10 believe they are more productive if they squeeze a run or workout in before their day’s work begins, so active time outdoors may be most beneficial of all.

Aston spoke to Honey Langcaster-James, TV & Broadcaster psychologist to discuss the research in further detail.
