Listen: Worried Brits put house moves on hold

Almost a month since the UK housing market was given the green light to resume sales, Brits haven’t been as quick to move as first expected – with a third reporting they’ve been put off moving home at the hands of Covid-19.

According to new research by industry body The Guild of Property Professionals, worries about social distancing and health concerns are putting buyers off. Despite a flurry of new properties to recently hit the market, potential buyers are apprehensive due to the lack of choice – reported by over a quarter (28%) of UK homeowners and renters.

Financials have become a roadblock for many as 20% report a lack of job security the top contender preventing them following through with a planned move. For those who are willing to continue to buy and sell, viewings remain a specific challenge. 8 in 10 report they are finding it difficult to arrange a viewing and a further two thirds revealing they would not be comfortable entering people’s homes for viewings.

Aston spoke to Iain McKenzie, property expert and CEO of The Guild to discuss on how to lift the lid on the industry and offer advice to those in a property dilemma.
