Pub heroes of the coronavirus lockdown revealed

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic and the devastating effect it has had on the pub sector, for one year only The Great British Pub Awards has changed its focus to celebrate pub heroes and showcase them as community champions.

The British Pub Awards asked 65,000 Brits which pubs they believe are the heroes of the coronavirus lockdown. For selfless acts such as feeding vulnerable members of the community, providing NHS workers with somewhere to stay or keeping morale high, pubs stepped up to help people in need during the coronavirus lockdown.

Near 1,000 pubs got in touch to tell The Great British Pub Awards how they helped their communities during the lockdown. Despite being on their knees during lockdown, operators stepped up to perform vital community services and it’s only right those incredible acts are not only recognised, but celebrated and last night 15 winners from across the UK were unveiled in a streamed digital event hosted by Stephen Mulhern.

Aston spoke to Ed Bedington, editor of the pub trade brand at The Morning Advertiser to discuss about the winners and why these pubs stood out and the pub industry itself.
