Although it’s been a challenging season for British apple and pear farmers, due to the impact of COVID-19 and fluctuating weather conditions, the 2020 British crop is estimated to be a staggering 1.3 billion apples, weighing an impressive 148,700 tonnes, and is one of the juiciest apple crops on record.
As British apples and pears start to arrive in supermarkets this week, now is the perfect time to change our lockdown snacking habits for the better. At less than 80 calories each and fibre-rich, apples are great for our gut health and help protect us from heart attacks and strokes.
