Southend prepares for LuminoCity light event

Genting Casino have joined Southend LuminoCity to sponsor another amazing installation, bringing the total to ten.

The Shrubbery in the Cliff Gardens and Pier Piazza Steps and Gardens are now part of the light trail as the latest confirmed installation, Radiance, offers another fantastic lightscape for visitors.

Drawing on inspiration from Never Never Land, which left a marked impression on him as a child in the 1960s, Andy Barak-Smith, owner of local company IADWM (It’s All Done With Mirrors), will light individual trees, and use floodlights to create an illuminated backdrop of changing colours. The steps from the High Street to the Pier will be turned in to a stairway of light.

Genting Casino Manager, Jim Firth, said: “Genting Casino are delighted to be involved with this event, helping to bring the community together, celebrating our newly awarded City status and Sir David Amess’ legacy. This festival is also a great opportunity to support local businesses.”

Jacqui Dallimore, chair of Southend Tourism Partnership said: “It’s great news that Genting Casino have joined Southend LuminoCity as a sponsor, allowing us to add another installation, bringing another dimension to the festival.”

Cllr Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment, culture, tourism and planning, said: “With yet another fantastic installation added to the dazzling line up, the excitement around Southend LuminoCity is growing by the day. I cannot wait for everyone to enjoy this incredible free event.”

Southend LuminoCity takes place between Wednesday 16 – Saturday 19 February across Southend High Street, leading to the Pier, including an installation on the seafront. Full details of all the installations can be found at www.southendlumiocity.co.uk. A free guide to the festival with all locations for the installations can be obtained from local shops and businesses from Monday 14 February.
