Listen: Brits heavy workloo’d in lockdown

2020 has been a year of big change for many Brits and having to adapt to working from home is definitely one of the biggest adjustments.

Whether you love it or hate it, it’s something that people have had to get used to and new research by ASUS has now revealed that Brits are combining their work-related tasks with everyday things around the house – with a third (32%) working while on the loo, over a quarter (27%) watching TV, another quarter (26%) online shopping and cleaning the house with even one in ten working while having a bath.

As the office and the home are now combined, this has been showing itself in Brits now working earlier – with the average start time being 8:12am. Over a third (38%) now start work before their morning coffee, 37% before they have a shower or bath, 36% before they brush their teeth and another third before they’ve gotten out of their pyjamas. Nearly one in five (18%) begin work before they have even gotten themselves out of bed!

You should also expect to find the average home-worker with 11 tabs and 11 documents open during the workday with that number increasing to 16 tabs for millennials and goes as low as 5 tabs for 55-64 year olds. ASUS also found that overall, half of Brits (55%) have seen an increase in their multi-tasking while working from home.

Aston spoke to Dr Becky Spelman to discuss this increase in multi-tasking and how Brits have adapted to the working from home life while also balancing their home life.
