With the latest ONS figures revealing a rising unemployment rate, new research released today by flexible workspace provider The Office Group has revealed the impact that lockdown and the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our mental health and wellbeing at work, with one third (33%) of those surveyed admitting that the uncertain job market is causing them mental anguish and leaving them feeling burnt out.
A significant part of the millennial generation – who make up 50% of the UK workforce – are now experiencing the second economic recession in their adult lifetime are experiencing feelings of stress and exhaustion with some of the other biggest reasons for this including working longer hours while working from home (59%) and being unable to separate work and personal life (42%).
As the nation gradually returns to the office, TOG is calling for companies to consider adapting their workspaces to help foster a healthier, happier workforce; this a plea on behalf of the 7 in 10 (69%) employees that stated that their workplace hadn’t offered any ways to improve their work-life balance or wellbeing while working from home during lockdown.
To combat this, TOG are offering virtual meditation sessions to those in need.
Aston spoke to Dr Sarah Vohra, mental health and wellbeing expert to discuss the research and also offered her advice on how to prevent stress and burnout.
