Officers investigating how a man came to be injured and found walking near to the A13 in Basildon have charged a man.
Essex Police were called to concerns for the welfare of a man seen in the Swinbourne Road area between 5.30am and 6.40am on Wednesday 29 January.
Essex Police attended and found a man in his 20s who had injuries to his face.
A 24 year-old man was arrested on 3 February.
Bradley Scates, of St Peters Road, Canvey Island, has now been charged with kidnapping, GBH with intent, and possession of a Class B drug.
He is due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court today (4 February).
