Alice Beer with tips on saving money as electricity bills soar this winter

With the nights darker and the days colder, winter is officially upon us. But as the UK bunkers down for a winter of record-breaking energy costs, what can be done to make sure we are saving as much as we can and how to make our homes more energy efficient in a sustainable way too.

New research released by Toolstation has shown that 60% of Brits are worried about how they will afford to keep their home warm this winter and 51% have argued with other members of their household about when to turn the heating on. Surprisingly though when it comes to our pets, 43% of us leave our central heating on for them when we leave home, as half worry they will get cold when we aren’t around.

But there are some key things we may be missing that can help save the pennies. Only 28% of us check our radiators are working correctly before we switch them back on, a fifth haven’t checked the boiler in the last two years or more and one in 10 haven’t got a clue how to change the washer on a tap and as a result pay more for water usage.

Johnny spoke to consumer champion Alice Beer alongside commercial director and plumbing, heating and electrical expert from Toolstation Matt Nourse.
