All set for the John Baron Fun Walk

31st August 2019
Posted by Johnny Jenkins

All is set for another successful annual Fun Walk on 8 September (again kindly hosted by Barleylands Farm). So far this year, nearly 90 good causes and charities have signed up. Meanwhile, local businesses have so far committed over £35,000 to the bonus pot.

The day will include music, stalls, refreshments, a choice of walks and more – all in aid of local charities. Last year the bonus pot added £65 to every £100 raised by each good cause and charity and the event raised £100,000 for nearly 100 charities – bringing the total monies raised since inception in 2002 to £1,064,000.

Due to the event’s increasing popularity, on behalf of The Fun Walk Trust (itself a charity), this year’s event is being organised for the first time by the Basildon, Billericay and Wickford Council for Voluntary Service (BBWCVS).

John Baron MP, Chair of Trustees of The Fun Walk Trust, said:

“We are set for another wonderful event. Our thanks go to Swan Housing Group, Anisha Grange Care Home, c2c, Greater Anglia, Brown & Carroll, Leonardo MW, Star Pubs and Bars, RSE Building Services, McDonalds Restaurants Basildon, Tunnelcraft and others – the £35,000 they have raised will be added to the monies raised by the charities on the day.”

Chris Evans BBWCVS Chief Officer added:

“We are so excited to be supporting this super event. A walk in a great setting and all for local charities”.
