Basildon Council launches Christmas Gift Drive – supporting families in need

2nd October 2025
Posted by Aston Avery

Basildon Council has officially launched its much-loved annual Christmas Gift Drive, calling on residents, schools, and local businesses to donate gifts and make this festive season magical for those most in need.

This heart-warming initiative will bring Christmas cheer to children living in temporary housing, young people identified through local schools, and residents in assisted living as well as our elderly residents living in sheltered housing across the borough. With the rising cost of living and ongoing challenges facing many families, every donation truly matters.

Last year, an incredible 5,500 presents were donated thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our community and this year, we’re aiming even higher ensuring that everyone, young and old, feels the magic of Christmas.

The deadline to donate is Friday 5 December 2025, and there’s no better time to start spreading some festive kindness!

Donations for children can include toys, games, arts and crafts kits, footballs, Lego, dolls, stationery, and gift vouchers. Gifts for adults and vulnerable residents can include festive treats, toiletry sets, gloves, scarves, notebooks, and gift vouchers. Gifts must be new and unwrapped, and weapon-style toys cannot be accepted.

So young and old – we’ve got your back this Christmas. Through the amazing generosity of the people and businesses of our borough, we’ll be able to spread some much-needed joy, comfort, and festive magic throughout our community.

Councillor Gavin Callaghan, Leader of Basildon Council, said:

“This Christmas, no child in Basildon should go without. Many families are facing extraordinary challenges, with hundreds spending the festive season in temporary accommodation.

“Every gift, no matter how small, will bring a moment of joy, hope, and comfort to someone who truly needs it.

“I want to thank everyone who has already donated. Together, we can make this Christmas brighter for children, families, and vulnerable adults across Basildon.”

Where to drop your gifts off

  • Gateway 97.8, The Galleries, Eastgate Centre (Monday to Friday, 10am–5pm and Saturday 10am–2pm)
  • The Basildon Centre, St Martin’s Square (Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm)

If you prefer to give from the comfort of home, you can also donate online via the Amazon Wishlist, making it even easier to bring a little magic to someone’s Christmas morning.

Let’s come together as a community to ensure everyone feels the joy of the season. Your kindness can help make this a Christmas to remember.
