Basildon Council has teamed up with Motivated Minds, to support struggling residents in the lead up to Christmas by asking ‘Are you OK?’.

Motivated Minds is a non-profit mental health and wellbeing organisation who offer a range of services to meet the needs of those suffering with their mental health, based from their Happy Hub in Eastgate Shopping Centre. The joint campaign is running for a second year, after its success last year in supporting residents through the challenging Christmas period of lockdowns and social distancing.

The purpose is to promote Motivated Minds’ referral service, for people who may benefit from a phone call or a letter from a trained counsellor in the lead up to Christmas. We’re also supporting and promoting their other services to help lonely and isolated residents, including their Christmas tree tag appeal to buy someone in need a Christmas gift, and their weekly walking group with a trained counsellor.

Leader of Basildon Council Councillor Andrew Baggott said:

“We really want to make sure that we have a positive impact on our lonely and isolated residents, in a time when feeling that way can be especially difficult.

“Motivated Minds is a really valued partner of the council who do such great work in the community. This campaign aims to raise awareness of how important it is to seek help if you need it, but also to highlight the support that is readily available to our residents.

“If you can donate to the Christmas tag appeal, or you know someone who may benefit from a call this festive season, please support us, Motivated Minds, and the campaign. I hope this is a successful initiative that residents get behind, and that we can help as many people as possible.”

Founder and Managing Director of Motivated Minds Carla Andrews MBE added:

“We’re delighted to be running this campaign for a second year in partnership with Basildon Council. We have a great relationship with the council, and this campaign allows us to utilise that connection to help as many residents as we can.

“Please share the campaign posts on social media to raise awareness of the support available, even doing just that little something will make a big difference to a fellow resident in need.”
