Creative Basildon’s Field Artist programme launches website

24th May 2023
Posted by Aston Avery

Field Artists is a residency programme as part of Creative Basildon. The residencies support artists investigating what is happening within 5 areas of Basildon Borough – Wickford, Laindon, Billericay, Pitsea and Vange, and Basildon itself.

This artist-led process has enabled a better understanding of communities and residents and was aimed to produce a series of public art pieces across the Borough alongside a digitally held archive of the residencies.

The Field Artists consisted of 6 creatives, each from a different artistic background. Syd Moore is a writer and an author, best known for her Essex Witch Museum Mysteries. Amy Ryall works in portrait photography. Ben Stewart is a street artist also working in digital art and photography. Kimberli Judge is a visual artist working with poetry, songwriting and performance art. Michael Young is an illustrator and animator. Ella van der Straaten is a visual artist trained in fine art working with installation pieces using photography and oils. Syd Moore, for instance, investigated the town of Wickford and discovered its history to be “full of surprises”.

Creative Basildon’s Field Artists website launches on Weds, 24th May, 2023 and is available for
