Get involved in major planning proposals and decisions in your area

A consultation has been launched to give communities and businesses the opportunity to shape how the council deals with planning decisions in the borough.

A six week consultation launched today (Thursday 1 August), and will close at 5pm on Thursday 12 September.

All local planning authorities are legally required to prepare a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI). The SCI provides information on how the council will involve local communities, businesses and other stakeholders in the preparation of planning policy documents, the determination of planning applications and in carrying out enforcement activities.

It also sets out how and when the council will support local communities in preparing Neighbourhood Plans.

This latest version will update the current SCI adopted by the council in July 2016.

Chair of the Infrastructure and Inclusive Growth Committee Cllr Adele Brown said:

“We want to hear what our residents and businesses think about how we engage with them and how we can improve that process. By updating the SCI we can take account of changes and requirements in legislation and also make the most of the opportunity to improve our consultation approaches.”

Visit www.basildon.gov.uk/sci for more information, and to submit your comments.

Reference copies of the consultation document will also be available to view during the consultation period at the Basildon Centre, and all Basildon borough libraries.
