JET Creative Artist Photographic Competition and Awards Ceremony

Award winning JET Hairdressing Academy, Basildon, held their annual competition at Towngate Theatre, Basildon with the theme of ‘Reinvention’ supporting recycling & re-use.

Hairdressing and Barbering Apprentices entered from salons across Essex, having to produce an ‘Inspirational Look’ using their own creative interpretation with a cut, style and/or hair up look. All entrants submitted their completed look using photographic images with supporting documentation of how they achieved their look.

The judging panel were made up of a prestigious line-up including award winning hairdresser, Jim Shaw and Sid Sottung – Founder of Sid Sottung Academy and owner Haus of Sottung

Jim Shaw said:

“The standard of the entrants was phenomenal, and they should all be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”

The winners were:

  • Ellie Osborne – Headlines Salon (first)
  • Isobel McNally – Six Salon Services (second)
  • Maya Brett – Strangeways Salon (third)

The Theatre Suite at Towngate was a full house with supporting family, friends and salons, – the night commenced with an Art Team demonstration from our amazing tutoring staff and their talented apprentices; Joseph Dixon, Ellie Osborne and Shelby-Chase Martin followed by a presentation from our models from Canning Academy of Performing Arts.

The show featured ‘An Audience with Jim Shaw – owner Essensuals in Billericay and Winner of Best International Men’s Commercial Collection at the International Hairdressing Awards 2019 and Stewart Roberts – Founder of ‘Haircuts for Homeless’ giving an insight to their amazing career journeys.

The evening culminated with JET’s annual awards ceremony where merit awards and the very prestigious Student of the Year Award was announced.

  • Winner:  Student of the Year – Jade Chapman – Signature Salon.

The event helped raise over £300 with money going to JET’s chosen charity Women V Cancer. 

JET Hairdressing Academy have been training apprentices for 20 years with over 2800 hairdressers and barbers in their highly equipped and modern training salon in Basildon. They have nearly 300 hairdressing & barbering apprentices at both levels 2 & 3 and work with 140 salons across Essex, also providing short courses and Barbering & Assessor Qualifications.
